• Want to be certified as a Master 24 Near Coastal under AMSA
• Have responsibilities commanding commercial vessels up to 24 metres in near coastal waters
• Are operating vessels carrying passengers or cargo commercially

• Are progressing from Coxswain or other maritime qualifications into higher command responsibility

Course Delivery, Assessment & Materials

Course Delivery

• Theory is completed online at your own pace via our secure learning portal
• Practical training and assessment are delivered face-to-face by experienced maritime trainers
• It is strongly recommended (but not mandatory) to complete the online theory prior to attending the practical training and assessment

Assessment Process

• Knowledge assessments are completed online through quizzes and written tasks
• Practical assessments are conducted face-to-face as part of the competency evaluation
• Students must demonstrate required competency across both theory and practical components

• Digital learning resources and theory modules are provided online via the learning portal
• Supporting learning materials are supplied during practical sessions and workshops where applicable
• Trainer support is available throughout your course via email, phone, digital classrooms, live video calls, and during workshops — ensuring you have guidance at every stage of your training

Licensing & Regulatory Information – Master 24 Near Coastal

RTO Course Completion (Training Outcome)

Marine Training Academy delivers the approved training and assessment required for the Master 24 Near Coastal program.
Students must successfully complete all theory and practical assessments to be deemed competent and issued the relevant qualification outcome.
Trainer support is available throughout the course.

AMSA Certification Requirements (Certificate of Competency)

To obtain your AMSA Master 24 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency (CoC), you must meet AMSA certification requirements in addition to completing training. These requirements may include:

• Holding a current HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid certificate
• Completing the required AMSA Final Practical Assessment with an AMSA-approved assessor (booked separately, where applicable)
• Meeting AMSA sea service requirements for Master 24 Near Coastal
• Meeting medical fitness requirements as specified by AMSA
• Lodging your CoC application and supporting documents through Australia Post, as required by AMSA

After submitting your application, you may be eligible to apply for an
Interim Certificate of Competency (ICOC) where applicable.
Copies of submitted documents must be retained, as they may need to be sighted during the ICOC process.

Fees and External Costs

AMSA licensing fees, application fees, medical costs (if required), and any AMSA-approved assessor fees are
not included in the course fee and are payable directly to the relevant provider.

We provide guidance to help you understand the AMSA process, required documentation, and the steps involved in applying
for both the CoC and (where applicable) ICOC, so you can progress through certification with confidence.
