The course fee for MAR30921 Master <24 Metres Near Coastal is $1,500.
Payments may be processed as progressive payments. Please note that full course payment must be finalised before the certificate can be issued.

Entry requirements – MAR30921
To enrol and be eligible for the issue of a Master <24 Metres Near Coastal certificate, you must be at least 16 years old on the certificate issue date.
You must have sufficient spoken and written English to participate safely in training and understand workplace documents (such as procedures, checklists and safety information).
You must be medically fit to perform the duties associated with vessel operations, including meeting eyesight requirements.
Students are also expected to have basic computer and internet skills to access online learning and the learner portal, download resources, and upload assessment evidence where required.
Course admission requirements
To be issued the MAR30921 certificate, evidence of completion must be provided for the following prerequisites:
Four ESS units (MARSS00008 Shipboard Safety Skill Set)
HLTAID011 (First Aid)
These prerequisites do not need to be completed before you commence training; however, they must be completed (or evidence provided) before we can issue the certificate.
If you already hold any of the units below, we can apply a Credit Transfer: MARF028, MARF029, MARF030, MARF060 and HLTAID011.
If you already hold a General Purpose Hand (GPH) or Coxswain certificate, you may have already completed the ESS units. Alternatively, the ESS units can be completed through Marine Training Academy.

Course delivery
Theory is completed online at your own pace through our secure learner portal. Practical training and assessment are delivered face-to-face by experienced trainers.
It is recommended (but not mandatory) that you complete the online learning components before attending your practical workshop, as this helps you get the most out of the hands-on training and assessment.
Assessment process
Knowledge assessments are completed online and may include quizzes and written tasks. Practical assessments are completed face-to-face during your workshop, where you will be assessed against the required performance criteria.
To be deemed competent, students must demonstrate competency across both the theory and practical requirements.
Course materials included
Digital learning resources and theory modules are provided through the learner portal. Hard copy resources may also be supplied during face-to-face sessions where relevant.
Trainer support is available throughout your course via email and phone, and during scheduled online sessions and practical workshops.
Licensing & Regulatory Information – Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal (MED 3)
Course requirements (RTO training)
All required units for MAR30821 – Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal) are delivered as part of this course.
Students must successfully complete all theory and practical assessments conducted by Marine Training Academy to be deemed competent. Trainer support is available throughout the course to assist students in completing coursework and assessments.
AMSA licensing requirements (Certificate of Competency)
To obtain your AMSA Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency (CoC), you must also meet AMSA’s licensing requirements, which include:
holding HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid (completed externally, if not already held)
completing the AMSA-mandated Final Practical Assessment (AMPA) with an AMSA-approved assessor (booked separately)
meeting AMSA’s sea service requirements for Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal
completing any medical fitness requirements as specified by AMSA
lodging your Certificate of Competency (CoC) application and supporting documents through Australia Post, as required by AMSA
After submitting your application, you may apply to Marine Training Academy for an Interim Certificate of Competency (ICOC) where applicable. Copies of all submitted documents must be retained, as they may need to be sighted during the ICOC process.
Note: AMSA licensing fees, application fees, and the AMPA assessor fee are not included in the course fee and are payable directly to the relevant provider.
