Please note: AMSA licensing and application fees do not form part of the training requirements and are not included in the course fee. Students are responsible for applying to AMSA and meeting any current AMSA requirements for the issue of a Certificate of Competency.

Licensing & Regulatory Information

This course leads to the Coxswain Grade 2 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency under Marine Order 505, issued by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

To be eligible, you must complete the following eight core accredited units:

  • MARC037 – Operate inboard and outboard motors
  • MARF027 – Apply basic survival skills in the event of vessel abandonment
  • MARF028 – Follow procedures to minimise and fight fires on board a vessel
  • MARF029 – Meet work health and safety requirements
  • MARI003 – Comply with regulations for safe operation of a vessel up to 12 metres
  • MARJ006 – Follow environmental work practices
  • MARK007 – Handle a vessel up to 12 metres
  • MARN008 – Apply seamanship skills aboard a vessel up to 12 metres

Also required:

  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid (must be completed externally and submitted)

Once all components are completed, you’ll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for MAR10418 Certificate I in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 2 Near Coastal).

Please note: To obtain your final AMSA licence, you’ll also need to complete the AMPA (AMSA Mandated Practical Assessment), hold valid sea service, and pass a medical (AMSA Form 1850).
