- 📘 Online theory training: Study in your own time before your practical day

Online Theory Course Access
After booking, you’ll receive an email from your trainer with login details. The course takes approximately 3–4 hours to complete and includes a practice quiz to prepare you for the final theory assessment.
Theory Assessment
The theory component includes 50 multiple choice questions. Maritime Safety Queensland requires a 100% score to pass.
If you don’t pass on your first attempt, you’ll be asked to revise the incorrect responses and reattempt them. A second failed attempt will require additional training and reassessment on another day.
Practical Assessment Overview
To successfully complete the practical component, students must demonstrate each manoeuvre without guidance from the trainer.
We recommend you practice the following skills beforehand with a licensed individual:
- Man overboard drill
- Safe approach to a floating object
- Port and starboard turns (on and off the plane)
- Figure 8 manoeuvre (on and off the plane)
- Berthing and unberthing
- General vessel navigation and control
- Operating at 6 knots or less
You’ll have the chance to rehearse each skill on the day. However, if you need extra time on the water, we highly recommend booking our Practical Training Course or Refresher Course.
Reassessment fee for the practical test is $150.
If you are marked Not Yet Competent, your trainer will guide you on next steps and additional support.
Certificate & Licensing
Once both assessments are complete, your trainer will issue a Certificate of Competency. Present this certificate at a Queensland Transport office to receive your licence. Visit the Maritime Safety Queensland website for the latest licensing fees.

Once enrolled, you’ll receive an email from your trainer with access to your online course. The theory takes approximately 3–4 hours to complete and includes a practice quiz to test your knowledge before assessment day.
Theory Assessment
The formal assessment includes 50 multiple-choice questions. Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) requires a 100% score to be deemed competent.
If any questions are answered incorrectly, you’ll receive targeted support and be given a second opportunity to attempt only the incorrect ones.
If unsuccessful again, you’ll be marked as Not Yet Competent and will need to complete further revision and resit the test at a later date.

To pass the practical, you must demonstrate all required skills without assistance or correction.

- Manoeuvring and maintaining control at speed and at 6 knots
If you’d like extra on-water time, we recommend booking a Practical Refresher Session.

🩺 Why First Aid & CPR Training Matters for Boaters and Jetski Operators
You’ve taken the first step by getting your boat and jetski licence — but the water can be unpredictable, and being truly prepared means knowing what to do in an emergency.
Whether you’re out for a quiet cruise or powering across the waves, accidents can happen fast — and help may not always be nearby. That’s why First Aid and CPR training is an essential next step for anyone operating on the water.
With this training, you’ll gain the confidence to:
- Respond quickly to injuries or medical incidents
- Assist someone who’s unconscious, choking, or not breathing
- Handle marine-related injuries like cuts, falls, or heat-related illness
- Make smart, potentially life-saving decisions while waiting for help
When you’re out on the water, emergency services might be 10 minutes or 2 hours away — or not reachable at all. Knowing how to respond to a medical emergency or marine wildlife incident could be the difference between life and death.
Stay safe. Stay in control. Be the person who knows what to do when it matters most.
Ask us how you can add First Aid & CPR training to your marine course today.
